Former Inspector General (IG) of Police Joseph Boinnet is the new Deputy National Security Advisor of the National Security Council.
In a Gazette notice dated March 6, 2023, State House Chief of Staff and Head of the Public Service Felix Koskei said President William Ruto appointed Boinnet in line with the National Security Council Act.
Ruto at the same time has appointed former Defence Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma as the Secretary of the National Security Council.
“It is notified for the general information of the public that the National Security Council has appointed Monica K. Juma to be the Secretary of the National Security Council,” the gazette notice stated.
The National Security Council constitutes powerful government officials who are basically responsible for the safety of Kenyans.
It includes the President, the Deputy President and cabinet secretaries for Defence, Foreign Affairs, Internal Security, the Attorney General, and the Chief of Kenya Defence Forces.
Monica Juma currently serves as National Security Advisor while Boinnet resigned as the Tourism Cabinet Assistant Secretary (CAS) to join elective politics.
He however lost the Elgeyo Marakwet Governor seat in the 2022 August polls.
