Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has played down claims that he is a bitter man.
Speaking during a media roundtable on Sunday, the DP said critics have every right to describe him however they want.
Gachagua said he is a truthful man who speaks his mind.
“Kenyans have every right to describe my character. I speak from my heart I say what is in my heart. I’m a truthful man,” he said, adding that Kenyans are not used to hearing the truth.
DP Gachagua insisted he welcomes criticism and will never change who he is.
“I accept and welcome criticism from media and social media… I will never change who I am…” he said.
DP Gachagua also mentioned that President William Ruto’s government is not bitter with anyone.
“We are not bitter with anybody. When I said in Kasarani that we found empty coffers I was just saying the truth,” Gachagua said.
The DP also addressed reports that he requested Sh1.5 billion from Treasury for the DP’s office after they were elected into office.
Gachagua said President Uhuru Kenyatta’s regime had at the time cut funding to the DP’s office. He claimed President William Ruto funded the office of deputy president with his personal finances for four years.
“Rigathi Gachagua has never requested for money to his office. Ukur Yatani and Kinuthia Mbugua(former State House Comptroller) cut all funds to Ruto’s office. For four years he fuelled GK cars, paid electricity bills, and allowances to staff accompanying him,” Gachagua said.
“When he went into office these two officers sought to undo the damage. That is what they were trying to reinstate. A certain media house was helping Yatani in diverting the attention of Kenyans from real issues,” he added.
