Kenya Now Has Enough Vaccines to Meet Uhuru’s Target – MoH

November 11, 2021

Kenya now has enough COVID-19 vaccines to meet the target set by President Uhuru Kenyatta, the Ministry of Health has said.

Chairperson of the Taskforce on Covid-19 Vaccines Deployment Dr. Willis Akhwale said the ministry is on course to inoculate 10 million Kenyans by December.

Dr Akhwale spoke on Tuesday night shortly after receiving 765,600 doses of the Oxford, AstraZeneca vaccine through the COVAX facility.

“With this delivery, the country now has sufficient doses to meet the target set by His Excellency, President Uhuru Kenyatta to administer 10 million vaccines by the end of December 2021. Therefore, there is no reason as to why we cannot meet this target,” said Akhwale at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

The Health Ministry noted that the additional doses bring the total number of vaccines available in the country close to 10 million doses.

As of November 9th, 2021, a total of 5,751,332 vaccines had so far been administered across the country. Of these, 3,825,759 were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were 1,925,573.
