Six KCSE candidates at St Monica Chakol Girls in Teso South Constituency are being investigated after they were found in possession of marijuana and sex toys.
The County Education Board (CEB) is probing the incident to find out how the Form Four students came in possession of the items.
The learners have since been suspended indefinitely to pave way for the investigations. Four of the six students have already been quizzed.
On Tuesday, the education board led by Professor John Shiundu questioned the Chakol Girls Principal, Sellah Aketch in the office of County Director of Education, Thaddeus Awuor, in Busia town. The school head allegedly kept the CEB in the dark over the incident.
Prof Shiundu spoke to the media after the interrogation saying Sellah Aketch defended the decision to suspend the students for fear of influencing other learners, with less than three months to the start of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examinations.
“Our preliminary investigation shows that some other things were not done in accordance with the law that governs education by the management of the school,” said Shiundu.
The Chairman of the board further urged school heads in the county to be vigilant to avoid cases of students sneaking hard drugs into schools.
