A preacher and has her husband are embroiled in a court case where they are accused of defrauding Sh3 million meant for church renovations.
Pastor Christine Anyango and husband Edward Otieno were on Monday charged with seven counts of forgery and fraud. They allegedly conspired to defraud Glad Tidings Crusade church Kes3 million from Jitegemea Credit Scheme.
They were charged that, without lawful authority or excuse, prepared minutes for resolution to borrow and obtain the money from Jitegemea Credit Scheme, a fact they knew to be false.
Additionally, they were charged with fraudulently making the document namely the minutes without authority. The couple was further charged with forging the minutes to involve the borrowing of Kes3 million for the church renovation process claiming to have been signed by one Esther Mueni on June 7, 2015.
The court also heard that officials from Jitegemea Credit Scheme contacted one of the pastors to know why they were not servicing the loan. After investigations, they found no renovations had taken place.
Appearing before Chief Magistrate Heston Nyaga, the accused persons denied all the charges.
They were released on a Kes50,000 cash bail or Kes200,000 bond and the case scheduled for hearing on November 3, 2019.
