‘Fake Matiang’i’ in Sh400 Million Fake Gold Scam Pleads his Innocence

May 28, 2019

A wanted man who was mistaken for Interior CS Fred Matiang’i in the Sh400 million fake gold scandal on Monday surrendered to the police.

Mr. Joseph Ogendo, who unsuccessfully contested for the Nyando Parliamentary seat in 2017, presented himself to the DCI headquarters on Kiambu Road. This after a poster was circulated on social media purporting that he was wanted by police over the gold scandal involving the Dubai royal family.

Speaking to reporters, Mr Ogenda pleaded his innocence saying he has nothing to do with the fake gold scam.

“I could not comprehend it because it is a bad thing, I have never dealt in (gold business). I never knew my name can come up in a wrong way but I’m reading malice and politics in the whole thing,” said the former civil servant.

Ogendo noted that he has been a public servant for over 25 years. “I worked as a civil servant with Kenya Revenue Authority. I served at the ministry of finance for some years, I joined VAT (department) then KRA. For over 25 years I have been a civil servant.”

He resigned in 2017 to contest for the Nyando parliamentary seat.
