Detectives are holding four suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of a 15-year-old girl in Nairobi’s Eastleigh area.

The suspects include the girl’s aunt, 28-year-old Nadhifa Mohammed, who was living with the deceased. Ms Nadhifa was arrested on Sunday and later arraigned at the Makadara Law Courts on Monday.

The Court allow detectives to detain her for 14 days pending conclusion of investigations.

The other suspects; Hawa Ibrahim Salad, Bahsan Abdi Salad, and Rahma Abdi Ali, were arrested on Wednesday and are set to be arraigned in court today, Thursday, 27, February 2019.

The police acted on a tip-off from members of a mosque in South C estate where the girl’s body had been taken for cleaning and prayers ahead of burial in accordance with Islamic traditions.

Police say attendants at the mosque became suspicious when they noticed injuries on the girl’s body. Two women who had taken the body to the mosque had claimed that the girl had died from a heart attack.

Detectives believe the girl was tortured to death as her body had deep cuts on the thighs,  forehead as well as burns suspected to have been caused by acid.
