A domestic quarrel between a man and his wife in Murang’a County ended in tragedy after the man attacked their 9-month-old son.
Francis Muiruri from Gaichanjiru village, Kandara sub-county reportedly slammed his son on the floor after a serious argument with his wife over food.
The 48-year-old is said to have arrived home drunk and asked for food. But after his wife, who was breastfeeding their twins, told him that there was no food, the furious man grabbed one of the toddlers and tossed him in the air.
Confirming the incident, Kandara DCIO Peter Muguika said after the infant hit the floor, he cried and after a short while fell asleep. But later, when the mother decided to change his napkins, she found him lifeless.
“It is only in the morning that the suspect’s wife realised that the child had passed away in the night,” the detective said.
The mother reported the matter at Kabati Police Station where the suspect is currently being held as investigations continue.
“The man is in our custody and we shall arraign him in court and charge him with murder after completing investigations,” the DCIO said.
The infant’s body was taken to Gaichanjiru mortuary.
The DCIO urged area residents to seek non-violent ways of handling domestic wrangles, like involving the police and seeking separation from their spouses instead of taking the law into their hands.
