A five-storey building under construction came tumbling down in Ruaka, Kiambu County, on Monday night.
The collapse occurred near Ndenderu area, off Limuru Road shortly before midnight.
A statement by Kenya Red Cross indicated that one person was trapped in the rubble but was rescued and rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital for treatment.
The collapse caused a power blackout in the area as residents urged Kenya Power officials to urgently dispatch disaster response teams.
“Send your engineers at Gacharage, Ruaka Jamuka Drive urgently. A house under construction has collapsed and part of the collapsed building is leaning on the main line. No power around the area,” one Richard Gitau said on Twitter.
This is not the first time that such an incident has occurred in Ruaka. Earlier in March, a four-storey building collapsed in the area.
The latest collapse comes one week after a five-storey building under construction collapsed in Juja, Kiambu County, following heavy rains.
