Nominated ODM MCA, Mary Mwami, has accused Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s bodyguards of assault.
According to Mwami, she was attacked after a face-off with Sonko at City Hall on Tuesday. She claimed that Sonko verbally attacked her before one the bodyguards turned physical.
The MCA said she was assaulted when members of the Transport Committee were scheduled to have a meeting with the County boss, who kept them waiting until 7 pm before they were allowed to get into his office.
“As I entered his office, Sonko shouted at me saying Wewe mama tuheshimiane, unatukana watu wangu,” Mwami told journalists at City Hall on Wednesday.
She said that to prevent an argument, she left Sonko’s office and was escorted by security men leading to the alleged assault.
“As I was leaving Sonko’s office, a bodyguard famously known as Jamal confronted me on claims I abused the Governor and his people,” she said.
“I know Jamal as we have met in various functions. He jumped on my neck, pulled me and threw me on the ground. I am a person with disability. By the time he left, I noticed he had roughed me up to the point where my bra was torn.”
Central OCPD Robinson Thuku said Mwami reported the incident on Tuesday night.
He said the MCA is expected to furnish police with medical reports.
“If the medical tests prove she was assaulted, we will take action and arrest the accused.”
Meanwhile, the governor’s communication deputy director Elkana Jacob denied the claims saying there was no fracas at the office.
