REVEALED: Why Man Set Ablaze his Wife and Two Kids in Umoja

June 6, 2017

Another case of domestic violence ended in tragedy last Friday after a Nairobi matatu driver killed his wife and two kids by setting them ablaze at their house in Umoja Innercore estate.

The 28 year old man is currently admitted at a Nairobi hospital in critical condition after he attempted to take his own life by jumping from a balcony of the three-storey building.

It has now emerged that a dispute over a text message and money received by the woman via M-Pesa led to the shocking Friday evening incident, The Star reports.

According to the report, the couple is said to have separated for more than a month and lived in separate houses. The man lived in Kawangware, while the wife had sought refuge at her sister’s house in Umoja II.

Nairobi DCI chief Ireri Kamwende said the man confronted his wife after he read a text message and saw the M-Pesa transaction from a man he suspected to be having a relationship with her.

The unidentified man is reported to have sent one of his children to a kiosk after which he set the woman and another two children ablaze.

The bodies of the woman and her two children were taken to City Mortuary pending autopsy.
