May 18, 2017

A form four student commited suicide  on Tuesday by hanging himself inside a classroom using an electric wire.

19-Year-Old Joseph Ogire, a KCSE candidate at St Charles Lwanga Nyamkebe Secondary school in Nyando, is said to have had a problem with one of the teachers.

The school’s principal, Irine Kowade, said a night guard found Ogire’s body while doing his rounds.

Kowade, who reported the incident at Ahero Police Station, said the student had arrived for morning preps at about 5.20am.

Kisumu police boss Andrew Naibei said there was no suicide note and Ogire’s bag and exercise books were found on his desk.

County commissioner Mohamed Maalim urged residents and students not to speculate and instead give them any helpful information.

The body was taken to Ahero sub-county mortuary.
