A 24-year-old woman on Saturday evening poisoned her two children before attempting to kill herself in Masaba North Sub-County in Nyamira County.
It is believed she tried to kill herself and her two children after a domestic feud in her family in Nyasumi Village.
The woman’s 7-year-old daughter succumbed to the poison. She was found dead on Sunday morning.
Locals were able to rescue the girl’s 4-year-old brother and the woman.
Confirming the incident, area Chief Charles Okeri said that the woman was found in a nearby river, awaiting her death.
“The mother and her son are currently getting medical attention at Gucha Hospital in Keroka town after being rescued today (Sunday) morning,” said the chief.
Police have since launched an investigation into the incident.
