One of Kenya’s greatest reggae music ambassadors, Jahkey Malle has seen the light.
As a result, the accomplished singer, DJ and promoter of the reggae genre has changed his name to Jack Israel.
Among those present to witness the transformation was secular turned gospel singer Lady Bee. She had this to say about him: “I am humbled to have ministered with him yesterday. He is now born again. He sings for Christ. He left everything he thought was good and today he is a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ…”
She added, “As I was watching him singing for Christ my tears were flowing… If I and Jahkey can be saved you too can be saved.”
Jahkey Malle was widely known for his entertainment label, Jahmbo Sounds. Besides his popularity, especially with his gigs at Club Hollywood in downtown Nairobi, he became an enigma in the Kenyan reggae scenes in the 90s and early 2000s. Some of his hit songs include ‘Dhulma’ and ‘Ukimwi’.
During his music career, Malle performed alongside big names such as Shabba Ranks, Lucky Dube, Chaka Demus & Pliers and Maxi Priest.
