US based Kenyan rapper, Hardstone real name Mbaruku Harrison Ngunjiri Maina, has made history as the first East African artiste to sign with Atlantic Records.
Atlantic Records is an American record label that was founded in 1947. It is a subsidiary of Warner Bros.-Seven Arts. Atlantic Records houses reputable artists like Bruno Mars, Wiz Khalifa, Charlie XCX, Cold Play, Trey Songz, Janelle Monae among others.
Hardstone blew up in the 90’s with his hit track ”Uhiki”, a Kikuyu song sampled from Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing” beats.
In an interview with Word Is he said,
“I’m very humble to be here, just came from the biggest meeting of my life which puts an important mark and an international presence in the global market… I’m just blessed to have a chance to showcase my talent and open up an eye to the international community what Kenya and East Africa as a whole got to offer.”
Here’s a recap of Uhiki.
