New PHOTOS – Standard Gauge Railway Construction Progressing Well

April 13, 2015

The construction of the Standard Gauge Railway that is set to revolutionize rail transport in Kenya is well underway.
For a project whose cost is more than Sh300 billion, there’s surely a lot involved.
It is emerging that several temporary lines will be constructed to assist in the construction. Already, 3 lines are under construction, with a fourth slated for next month. For instance, a line has been constructed from the sleeper factory at Section 7 (Emali) to facilitate their transportation.
The factory makes 100 of these steel reinforced concrete sleepers per day, each weighing 300 Kg.

There’s also a line being constructed for the transportation of T-beams. They span 32 metres and weigh 142 tonnes and will be used at bridges, especially at the Tsavo section.
