Former University of Nairobi student leader Babu Owino has refuted claims that he is a drug dealer. Babu has been marred by controversies concerning the source of his massive wealth. Last year he is said to have paid the hospital bill of one of his student’s mother amounting to 768,000 Kenyan shillings. During this year’s general elections Babu vied for a seat in the National Assembly as MP for Westlands but lost to Tim Wanyonyi.
Asked about the drugs allegations, he said, “I don’t even know how drugs look like. The only white powder I know is ugali flour. If that is a drug, then I’m a drug dealer.”
Babu graduated from the university last year with a first class honours in Actuarial science, and has now enrolled for a second degree in the same university, this time in Law. It is alleged that he has returned so that he can vie again for the SONU chairman post again.
“Students like me, and it’s just because SONU was more efficient and transparent during my tenure,” he told Nairobian newspaper
On his money, Babu claims he gets it from investments in agriculture and small businesses.
