June 25, 2019

Grade Three pupils studying the new competency-based 2-6-3-3-3 curriculum will for the first time be assessed during this year’s national exams.

The new system involves two years of pre-primary education, three years of lower primary, three years of upper primary, three years of lower secondary, three years of senior secondary and three years in tertiary education.

Following the launch of the new curriculum earlier this year, KNEC announced that pupils will be subjected to a test called Kenya Early Years Assessment.

The Kenya National Examination Council (Knec) has since released the timetable for this year’s KCPE and KCSE examinations, with the Grade 3 learners set to be assessed between 16-20 September before proceeding to the next level.

They will be assessed in English, Mathematics and Integrated Learning to determine their ability to apply the knowledge, skills, attitude and values.

KCPE exams have been scheduled to start on October 28 ending October 31.

Secondary school candidates will sit their KCSE exams beginning November 4 until November 27.

1.78 million candidates will be sitting for the two national exams with 1,089,671 candidates registered for KCPE and 698,935 registered for KCSE.
