Ahead of the Beyond Zero Half Marathon slated for March 10, motorists in Nairobi and environs have been advised to use alternative routes for the better part of Sunday morning.
Nine roads will be closed for the races that will kick off at 6.30 am. They include:
1. Mombasa Road
2. Lusaka Road – Mombasa Road Junction to the City Stadium
3. Aerodrome Road
4. Bunyala Road – Mombasa Road Junction to Unilever Kenya
5. Haile Selassie Roundabout – August 7th Memorial Park
6. Kenyatta Avenue
7. University Way
8. Waiyaki Way
9. Museum Hill – Waiyaki Way Junction – Ojijo Road/Kipande Road junction
Here is a breakdown of the schedule:
Wheelchair/Tricycle Category – Call Time: 6:00am, Start Time: 6:30am
Half Marathon (21km) – Call Time: 6:40am, Start Time: 7:00am
10Km Corporate Race – Call Time: 8:00am, Start Time: 8:30am
5Km Family Fun Run and 2Km Pregnant Walk – Call Time: 8:45 am, Start Time: 9:00 am
The 21km half marathon and the 10km road race shall feature two categories; elite category that is eligible for prize money and the amateur category.
For the elite categories, winners will run home with Sh250,000 for 21km and Sh100,000 for 10km.
Over 20,000 participants are expected to participate in this year’s event. All the races will begin outside Nyayo National Stadium on Uhuru Highway.
From Nyayo Stadium, the participants will head towards the Central Business District on Uhuru Highway then to the Museum overpass before making their way back to the stadium through Kenyatta Avenue.
