During a stakeholder forum on Monday, the Ministry of Health, SHA and the Digital Health Agency (DHA) discussed the transition of the SHA Provider Portal to a new digital platform. SHA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mercy Mwangangi said the updated system will improve data processing and enhance service delivery.
“Within the next three months, I expect all providers to be fully integrated. If not, we will have no option but to deconstruct non-compliant facilities,” Mwangangi said.
Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale said the transition of the SHA portal helped drive Kenya’s digital health transformation, which aims to achieve Universal Health Coverage.
He also pointed to improved connectivity between healthcare financiers and other stakeholders as a key factor behind the success of Taifa Care.
“A robust digital ecosystem that seamlessly connects providers, patients, regulators and healthcare financiers is essential to the success of Taifa Care,” Duale said.
According to Duale, the SHA–HMIS will deepen the link between healthcare delivery and financing through real-time patient verification, electronic claims processing, secure health information sharing, and seamless integration with hospital management systems.
The Ministry of Health said it will phase out the old Provider Portal as hospitals shift to the new digitalised health system.
“The transition is expected to enhance efficiency, speed up claims reimbursement and strengthen accountability across Kenya’s healthcare sector,” SHA noted.
