Kenyans in UAE Receive Emergency Support After Wave of Job Losses

June 9, 2026

The Kenyan Embassy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has rolled out a relief support initiative for Kenyans affected by job losses in the Gulf state. The embassy said the move follows a slowdown and the closure of sectors, including hospitality and related industries, which left many workers struggling.

In a statement, the embassy said officials carried out the exercise on June 4, 2026, in Abu Dhabi. Kenya’s Ambassador to the UAE, H.E. Kenneth Nganga, led the outreach in collaboration with Kenyan diaspora leaders.

The embassy added that the initiative included the distribution of essential supplies to affected Kenyans, with the aim of easing immediate hardships as individuals work to rebuild their livelihoods. It said job losses have left “several Kenyans living and working in the UAE” adversely affected.

The embassy described the program as part of its continued efforts to support vulnerable Kenyans abroad, noting that diaspora leaders helped coordinate the outreach and identify those in need within the community. In its statement, it said the initiative reflects a strong partnership between the embassy and the diaspora, built on solidarity, compassion, and mutual support among Kenyans overseas.

The embassy also acknowledged a personal contribution from Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi and his spouse, saying the support enabled the intervention.

Leaders of the Kenyan community in Abu Dhabi officially received the donation on behalf of the beneficiaries.

The relief exercise comes as broader discussions continue about the welfare and working conditions of Kenyan migrant workers in Gulf countries, particularly during periods of economic slowdown and job instability.
