Over a breakfast meeting, the two leaders mapped out a strategy to liberate Kenya from President William Ruto’s administration. Gachagua noted that the governor confirmed the Western region’s full commitment to the political movement.
“The Governor has briefed me on the commitment of the great people of Western Kenya to join other Kenyans in liberating our Nation, which has been mismanaged by this kleptomaniac regime.
“I am very happy that Governor Natembeya, just like colleagues and me in the United Alternative Government, is clear that the only way to liberate our country is to identify one Presidential candidate to face William Ruto on 10th August, 2027,” the ex-DP wrote in a statement.
During the talks, Gachagua and Natembeya finalized plans for the United Opposition’s upcoming tour of the Western region, which kicks off today, Friday, June 12.
The Democratic Congress Party (DCP) leader also briefed the governor on his decision to step away from national rallies for a 45-day retreat at his Wamunyoro home. He explained that this brief hiatus will allow him to engage directly with stakeholders and build consensus within his support base regarding a single opposition presidential candidate.
Despite the High Court’s recent decision to uphold his parliamentary impeachment, the former deputy president maintained his eligibility to run for the presidency in the August 2027 elections. He pitched himself as the strongest contender to challenge his former boss on the ballot, pointing to his voter numbers, financial muscle, and deep political experience.
Nonetheless, Gachagua pledged his full support to whoever the United Opposition ultimately chooses, vowing to mobilize 10 million Kenyans to vote Ruto out of office.
