Kalani Muema and Stephen Mbisi were among four men allegedly abducted in December 2024 during a wave of enforced disappearances that many believe involved state-linked operatives. Tragically, the other two men – Martin Mwau and Justus Mutumwa – were later found dead, leaving Muema’s and Mbisi’s families fearing the worst.
“We are tired of waiting. We just want the government to tell us the truth. If my brother is alive, show us. If he is gone, we deserve to bury him with dignity,” pleaded Monica Mwende, sister to Kalani Muema.
Stephen Mbisi’s family, however, has chosen to stay out of the public eye. They say the emotional toll is still too heavy, and the trauma of his disappearance is far from healed.
Human rights lawyer Fanya Mambo Kinuthia has denounced the disappearances as a violation of basic rights.
“Abducting citizens and detaining them without due process is a grave offense. This is unconstitutional and unacceptable. The government must be held accountable and provide answers,” Kinuthia said.
The families say they’ve exhausted every official channel in search of answers with no success. Now, they are making a heartfelt appeal to President William Ruto to step in personally and help deliver justice and closure in a case that continues to haunt their lives.
