Passaris to Protest Sponsors: ‘You Live Abroad, Kenyans Face the Consequences’

July 7, 2025

Nairobi Woman Rep Esther Passaris has indicated that the ongoing protests in Kenya may be externally sponsored by foreigners.

Speaking during a Sunday press conference, Passaris revealed that she had been informed by reliable sources of external funding for the protests. She asked such people who were allegedly funding the protests to rethink, as it’s ordinary Kenyans who ultimately suffer the consequences.

“From the messages I have received, there are people funding these movements from outside the country.

“You live outside, but you’re leaving Kenyans here. Those calling for the invasion of government institutions are not on the front lines. It is our innocent children and desperate families who are going to lose their lives,” she said.

Passaris appealed to Kenyans to maintain peace ahead of the planned Saba Saba Day protests on July 7.

“Going to the streets every week is fine, as long as it’s peaceful. I pray that tomorrow will remain peaceful for those who will be exercising their rights,” she said.

She cautioned against inciting violence or calling on Kenyans to storm government buildings, warning that they would lead to more killings and destruction. She instead called on Kenyans to embrace dialogue as the key to meaningful change.

“What I want to say is: let us work together. We need to engage in dialogue and resolve these issues. If Raila could do it, if our party leader could engage with Uhuru Kenyatta, and now again with William Ruto, it shows that Raila has everyone’s interests at heart. He cares about this country’s peace and prosperity. So let us all work together toward a peaceful Kenya,” she continued.

Passaris also urged national cohesion, calling on leaders and citizens to put the stability of Kenya first.

She addressed the media in the company of other Nairobi leaders such as Nominated Senators Tabitha Mutinda and Karen Nyamu, Makadara MP George Aladwa, and Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor (Jalang’o).
