Speaking during a televised interview on May 29, 2025, Senator Maanzo called on the public to be vigilant, courageous, and united in confronting what he described as a worsening national crisis. He said the time has come for Kenyans to take charge of their own safety by identifying suspected abductors and handing them over to law enforcement authorities.
“This is not the first time abductions have been denied. It is high time the public apprehends abductors and presents them to the DCI,” Maanzo stated firmly.
He criticized the government’s continued denial of any involvement in the disappearances, a stance that has frustrated many Kenyans who believe the silence enables impunity and denies justice to the victims and their families.
“The cure for abductions is to let the public arrest these abductors, now that the police have denied involvement,” Maanzo said, making a direct appeal to citizens to assume responsibility where the state has failed.
The senator stressed that fighting enforced disappearances requires collective responsibility. He encouraged Kenyans to mobilize in large numbers to protect anyone who might be targeted and ensure those responsible face justice.
“Let us not wait any longer for those in power to act. If the authorities deny involvement and fail to protect us, then it is our duty as citizens to arrest the abductors and hand them over to the law. Together, we can stop this menace,” he declared.
Maanzo referenced the dramatic incident involving Juja MP George Koimburi, emphasising the need for public intervention.
“We have had incidents like the Koimburi abduction, where people were taken, and there has been little response from the authorities. The public must stand up to these criminals because waiting for official action has not worked,” he stated.
