Investigations are reportedly ongoing into an incident where a policeman lobbed a teargas inside a lodging in Kisumu on Monday night while looking for his girlfriend.
According to a police report, the officer based at Kasagam police station also lobbed another teargas canister inside a nightclub.
Police said the officer stormed the lodging in the Nyamasaria area at around 3 am, claiming that his girlfriend had walked in there with another man.
After being denied access, the cop lobbed teargas in the compound and took off on a bodaboda.
The officer then went to a nightclub along the Kisumu-Nairobi highway and lobbed a second canister over reasons yet to be established.
Irate revellers captured him and beat him up when he attempted to escape.
The officer was later rushed to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital where he is nursing injuries.
“We are investigating the allegations that he misused teargas canisters over personal issues,” said Kisumu East Sub-County Police Commander Joseph Asugo.
