City Man in Court For Drugging Reveler, Stealing Sh849,000 in Kasarani

March 31, 2023

A man was charged at the Makadara Law Courts for allegedly drugging a reveler at a restaurant in Kasarani and using his phone to steal Sh849,000 from his bank accounts.

Bosco Mungai Njiraini is accused of stealing the money and two mobile phones worth Sh250,000 from one Fredrick Sang after allegedly stupefying him on March 12.

The court heard that Mr Sang was enjoying drinks at a restaurant with friends when he was joined by a familiar woman.

They then left the restaurant after a while when the woman requested the victim to drop her at her residence in Thome estate within Kasarani.

Mr Sang told police that he regained consciousness the next day and found himself alone inside his car parked at a petrol station in Thome estate.

His two phones, national identity card and two ATM cards were also missing. He proceeded to work where his colleagues told him that his phones were turned on but calls were going unanswered.

Sang obtained bank statements and was shocked to find that Sh849,000 had been withdrawn from his three bank accounts. The funds had been transferred to different mobile phone numbers via M-Pesa.

The complainant went to a clinic where doctors told him that his drinks had been spiked.

He reported the matter at the Kasarani Police station and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, leading to the arrest of Bosco Mungai and the woman he was in the company of on March 12.

In court, Bosco also faced a charge of conspiracy to commit a felony after colluding with others at large to steal from Mr Sang.

The woman was charged with similar offences on Monday last week and released on a bond of Sh1 million.

Bosco on the other hand was released on a bond of Sh500,000 after denying the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Agnes Mwangi of Makadara Law Courts.

The matter will be mentioned on April 26 when it will be consolidated with that of Bosco’s accomplice, before the hearing starts on September 26.
