Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called out Opposition leader Raila Odinga for allegedly disrespecting former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Speaking in Mpeketoni, Lamu County on Sunday, DP Gachagua accused the Azimio leader of “downgrading” the Uhuru by dragging him to public rallies.

“We forgive him for many things, but not for misleading Uhuru Kenyatta,” Gachagua said, citing an incident where Uhuru accompanied Raila to a public rally in Nyanza, after the burial of former Education CS George Magoha.

During the said rally, Uhuru declared he still supports Raila Odinga.

“Even though I have left active politics, I am still a follower of Raila. I supported him at that time (during elections), and I will still support him because I believe he is an honest person who wants to unite Kenyans. It is democratic and my right to support whoever I want. I am retired but not tired. You know my party leader is Raila,” the former president said.

Gachagua however claimed Raila Odinga misled Uhuru when he was president and he is still misleading him now.

“Please respect our former President. Even if he (Uhuru) was misled and the economy was ruined, he is our respected leader. We want his respect to be upheld, he should not be taken to rallies. It ruins our respect as Kenyans.”
