Police in Kajiado on Saturday October, 29, arrested a 34-year-old woman for allegedly killing her three-month-old baby and hiding the body in a bucket in her house in Majengo slums.
The arrest followed a police report filed by a class seven girl on Friday, October 28.
In the formal report OB No.27/28/10/2022 filed at Kajiado Police Station, the 14-year-old girl told police that her mother killed and placed the body in a plastic bucket which she filled with water and placed under her bed.
“I have been unable to live in our house due to the bad odour coming from the decomposing body of the infant,” the girl reported.
A team of police officers from Kajiado visited the scene of the crime on Saturday and discovered the decomposing body of the infant in a bucket of water under the bed.
Detectives suspect the woman suffocated the infant to death.
Kajiado Central Police Commander Daudi Loronyokwe confirmed the incident saying it was unfortunate.
“We are investigating the bizarre incident. It is unfortunate a mother can kill her child and hide the body in the house,” the police boss said.
Loronyokwe said the woman would be taken to the hospital for mental assessment and general medical examination before being arraigned in court on Monday.
The infant’s body was moved to Kajiado Referral Hospital mortuary.
