A woman in Kitui is alleged to have committed suicide at her home after failing to raise school fees for her daughter who is to join Form One.
The body of the 37-year-old woman was discovered dangling from a tree in Kavisuni location, Katulani Sub-County in Kitui Central on Wednesday morning.
Confirming the incident, area AP Commandant Aliphonce Anaswa said neighbours alerted authorities after discovering the body.
The administrator noted that the deceased may have taken her own life after failing to raise fees for her daughter who scored 396 in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams.
He added that the woman’s daughter had threatened to kill herself if the mother failed to pay fees.
The woman’s body was taken to Kitui Level 4 Hospital morgue for a postmortem.
Police have launched investigations into the incident.
