Police in Nyakach Sub-county, Kisumu have detained three suspects –two secondary school students and a university student – for the murder of a teacher on Wednesday night.
Confirming the incident, Koguta East sub-location Assistant Chief Walter Oguche said the three had a disagreement with the deceased – identified as Manasse Ong’ole – at a local bar in Nyamaroka market centre.
The Chief said the suspects, who are currently being held at Pap Onditi Police Station, attacked the teacher after he declined to buy them alcohol.
The suspects, identified as Fidel Castro Odero, an 18-year old Form Four student at Wang’apala Secondary School, Patrick Omondi, 18, from Ramba Boys Highs School and 21-year-old Moi University student Ian Agure, are said to have trailed the teacher from the bar before attacking him.
The deceased’s body was found with deep cuts on the face and was transferred to Nyabondo sub-county hospital mortuary.
Two other people, who were with the teacher at the time of the attack, are said to be fighting for their lives in hospital.
After leaving them for dead, the students went to sleep in the same house about a kilometre from the scene. Police recovered crude weapons and bloodstained clothes which will be used as exhibits.
The deceased was a Kiswahili teacher at Guu Secondary School in Nyakach, Kisumu County where he had taught for the last 10 years.
Kuppet officials led by the Kisumu branch executive secretary Zablon Awange have called for thorough investigations to ensure justice is served not only to the principal’s family but also to the school.
“Let no stone remain heavy or unturned in bringing the culprits to book,” he said.
