Vihiga County Governor Issues Directive Denying Services to Unregistered Voters

January 17, 2017

Vihiga County government beginning Monday has been forcing people to register as voters before seeking public services following a directive from County Governor Moses Akaranga.

In a memo circulated to all the departments, he directed departmental heads to verify the voter registration identity of every resident seeking service from them.

“All departments are directed to verify the Voter Registration of every resident seeking services from the department serving him/her.

“Only patients seeking medical attention will not be subjected to the above,” he added.

He said all the government officials should ensure that service seekers send their ID numbers to 22464 to verify their registration status.

Akaranga also urged leaders to mobilise residents to register so that they can fully participate in the August 8 polls adding that those who have not collected their identity cards from the office of the Registrar of Persons should do so immediately.

The Mass Voter Registration (MVR) exercise kicked off on Monday morning.
