Jalang’o: My Dad and I Cried After I was Denied Admission at Maseno School Over Lack of Fees

August 29, 2018

Radio personality Felix Odiwuor alias Jalang’o has recalled an inspiring story of how he struggled to get a high school education over a lack of fees.

The Milele FM presenter took a trip down memory lane following a visit to Maseno School, which was his dream school after completing his primary education.

Jalas, who attended the Homabay Lake Primary School, said he got a lucky chance at his dream school after scoring 442 marks out of a possible 700 in his KCPE. However, his dream did not fully materialise due to lack of school fees.

When I sat for my KCPE I got a chance at Maseno school by luck because with 442 Marks I think I was lucky…I was soo happy just like everyone because a chance at Maseno school was all you needed! This dream was not to be! School fees was nowhere! My dad ( God Rest his soul in peace) organised several fund drives and by the time he was getting the money I was two weeks late from reporting day! My chance was gone!” shared Jalang’o on Instagram.

The celebrated emceeing added that he and his late father pleaded with the Principal to allow Jalas enroll but they were rejected. According to Jalas, that was the first time he saw his dad cry.

“We walked with my dad out of the school after hours of pleading to be allowed in, the principal refused! I had never seen my dad cry but that day we cried together,” Jalas penned.

After hitting a dead end at Maseno, Jalang’o was enrolled at the Bar Kanyango Secondary School in Siaya County.

“I later joined form one in a different school but with Maseno school uniform because my old man could not afford another pair! So for the whole of form one I was in a different uniform in a different school,” he said.

At Kanyango, school fees was still a struggle forcing his father to transfer him to Nyangoma Boys in Bondo where he struggled until he completed his O level and scored a C+.

Jalas added: “To cut the long story short, today I was at Mseno school advising and giving wisdom to their class of 2018! Once again GOD WINS!”
