Ewuaso Oonkindongi Member of County Assembly (MCA) Joseph Ole Torris has dumped the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to join the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
DCP Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua officially received Ole Torris during a welcoming ceremony in Wamunyoro on Monday, August 3.
Framing the decision as a fresh start for purpose-driven leadership, Ole Torris stated that his constituents directly inspired his defection.
“I am deeply honoured to officially join DCP and grateful for the warm welcome extended to me by our Party Leader, H E Rigathi Gachagua. Together with fellow leaders and supporters, we are working to build a stronger, fairer, and more prosperous Kenya,” Ole Torris said.
“This is not just a political move; it is a commitment to stand with the people, defend their interests, and champion development, accountability, and inclusive leadership. The best is yet to come. The future is green,” he added.
Welcoming the lawmaker, Gachagua commended Ole Torris for honoring his constituents’ wishes.
“He was elected on an ODM ticket, but he has obeyed the wishes of his people to defend his seat on a DCP ticket in August 2027,” Gachagua noted.
The former Deputy President positioned DCP as a fast-growing political force, claiming the party has gained solid traction across Kenya and the Maa region specifically. He pledged that a future DCP administration would address historical marginalization in the region through targeted affirmative development programs.
Ole Torris becomes the first ODM-elected leader to defect to Gachagua’s party. Gachagua has consistently pointed to the Maa region as one of DCP’s primary strongholds heading into the 2027 polls.
His entry follows earlier electoral gains for the party in the region, including Narok Town Ward MCA Douglas Masikonde, who won on a DCP ticket during the November 2025 by-elections, alongside Kisa East MCA Aduda Okwiri. The party also made a strong showing in the Emurua Dikirr by-election, where its candidate Vincent Rotich secured second place with 10,760 votes.
