A police officer based in Kibera, Nairobi has died after sustaining internal head injuries during a bar brawl.

Police constable Ephantus Mugambi, attached to Kibera patrol base, was found lying unconscious inside a car parked at the base on Tuesday evening and rushed to hospital.

According to police reports, the constable had been hit on the head with a cue stick during a fight with a bartender at Boys Bar within Kibera on Sunday.

The officer reportedly succumbed to head injuries in the ICU at the Nairobi Women’s Hospital.

Detectives on Wednesday traced and arrested 3 suspects, including the bartender identified as Mohamed Adel. They will be charged in court once investigations are complete.

Elsewhere, another officer is recovering in hospital after he was shot by unknown gunmen in Kasarani on Thursday morning.

Sergeant Fredrick Munene of Sunton police post was shot in the stomach at around 2 am. He is said to have been in the company of two of his colleagues when he stopped to interrogate a suspicious-looking man.

Two other suspects then joined and shot the officer before escaping on foot. Sergeant Munene fired one round and was later rushed to a city hospital where he is admitted in a serious but stable condition.
