The Meteorological Department has warned that heavy rains will continue into Wednesday this week.
The moderate to heavy rainfall is expected to continue pounding Nairobi and environs throughout the week. Other areas to be affected are South and Central Rift, Nyanza, Southeast lowlands and Central regions.
The weatherman advises residents in these areas to be on the lookout for potential floods, avoid driving through or walking in moving water. Members of the public have also been warned to avoid open fields and not to shelter under trees and near grilled windows to minimize exposure to lightning strikes.
Inhabitants of landslide-prone areas, especially over the slopes of the Aberdare ranges, Mount Kenya, and other hilly areas, have been put on high alert.
The Meteorological Department noted that heavy rainfall is being experienced across the country and has led to overflowing in most rivers with the ground already saturated with water.
As a result, flooding and landslides may be triggered by any substantial amount of rainfall in low lying and hilly areas.
The weatherman indicated that amounts of rainfall are likely to be higher and will be accompanied by heavy storms which are likely to be more frequent in the afternoons and evenings.
