One month after the demonetization of the older series Sh1000 notes, some members of the public are still chancing upon the now-valueless notes that they had forgotten about.
Just the day, a 60-year-old man identified as Julius Mboga from Sirondho village in Gem, Siaya County pleaded with Central Bank of Kenya Governor Patrick Njoroge to help him exchange Sh500,000 worth of the old 1,000 notes with new ones.
Another law-abiding Kenyan citizen who is counting her losses, albeit small, is celebrated gospel singer Wahu.
The ‘Sweet Love’ singer took to Instagram last night to share her predicament with her over 990k followers after suffering a Sh2000 loss. She said she found the two Sh1,000 notes in a jacket and that she was happy for a moment before reality dawned on her.
“Just found this in a jacket.. I was happy for a moment 😭😭😭. Did this happen to anyone else?” she posed as fans shared their own experiences.
Citizen TV news anchor Lulu Hassan commented: “😂😂😂😂😂😂.”
Another netizen wrote: “I found 5k. I have kept it hoping they will give us another chance to take them to the bank like they do while we voting.”
“How now??? Ati nisahau 2k kwa mfuko ghai. Impossible,” said another.
Another amused netizen wrote: “😂😂😂😂😂😂 keep it and show to your grandkids when they will be around. 🤣🤣”
A fifth fan teased Wahu’s hiding skills: “Kuficha nayo”
“Me aki, 6k and I was jumping up to the ceiling only to remember….. Ni zilizopendwa😭😭😭,” said @am_patie.
Radio personality Massawe Japanni suggested how Wahu can possibly use the old notes: “Karatasi ya njugu sasa🤣🤣”
IG user @Edithngugi painfully recalled: “I found 6 of them😭😭😭😭”
One @miss_anavaka wondered: “Eiiish you mean you can forget 2k in a jacket? Mimi ata 20 bob siwezi sahau anywhere😂😂”
“Happened to me too. I won’t even disclose the amount but the pain was real😰😰😰,” another said.
“Nyi ndo mlificha pesa zimeanza kupatikana 😂😂😂😂😂🙌,” wrote Kareh.
