Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have arrested a woman who allegedly killed her daughters two months ago in Tinderet, Nandi county.

Floxy Cheptoo is said to have murdered 11-year-old Ivy Chelang’at and seven-year-old Berly Chepchumba before dumped their bodies in a pit latrine. The deceased were in Class Five and Class One respectively at Kabolebo Primary School.

According to police, she committed the cold-blooded murder so that she could get married to her lover.

“Her male friend lied to her that she should kill her kids so that she can be married to the man who comes from the same village,” police said on Monday.

The 32-year-old suspect reportedly butchered the girls in a bedroom they had been sharing with their cousins.

Cheptoo, whose home is in Kaburwa Village, Kalolebo Tinderet Sub County, abandoned her husband and moved to Morosiot after committing the crime on July 9 this year.

But detectives in Nandi Hills lay a trap for her through a friend who promised her a well-paying job.

When the suspect arrived at her friend’s home, she found officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations waiting for her.

Cheptoo was detained at Kapsabet Police Station awaiting arraignment in court.
