A handful of ODM leaders have petitioned the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to probe the source of DP Ruto’s cash donations.

Led by Siaya Senator James Orengo, the politicians argued that parliament recently enacted stiff rules and regulations regarding the withdrawal of money from commercial banks, hence, the millions dished out by Ruto during fundraisers should be investigated.

“Nowadays to withdraw a million shillings from the bank is non an easy thing. So the investigative agencies must also investigate where these millions of shillings being dished out are coming from,” said Orengo.

Orengo, who was speaking in Ugunja Constituency, further warned churches against accepting funds whose source is not clear, noting that they could sometimes be given stolen money.

“And our churches stop accepting stolen money. This is the devil’s money,” said the Senator.

Orengo’s remarks were echoed by Alego/Usonga MP Samuel Atandi who said impunity must be dealt with firmly for the country to effectively fight corruption.

He said the fight against corruption will be useless if the Deputy President continues to donate hundreds of millions of shillings whose source is unclear.

“I want to ask William Ruto, from which bank do you withdraw millions of shillings you carry in bags. You cannot withdraw such amounts of money unless you explain the purpose of that money,” he said.

“If William Ruto continues to carry loads of cash in bags and we say we are fighting corruption. We are doing nothing.”
