National Super Alliance (Nasa) leader Raila Odinga is in the United States for a series of high-stakes meetings with the US Congress members and Kenyans living in the US.
He arrived on Wednesday morning and held several high-level, closed-door meetings with House and Senate Congressional Committee officials “regarding the state of Kenya”, according to dispatches from his team.
Odinga’s first major open meeting was the much-publicised keynote speech, in a lecture-type setting, on “Overcoming Kenya’s political crisis and advancing democracy, rule of law and stability”.
He is also scheduled to meet Congressmen Chris Coons of Delaware and Cory Booker of New Jersey, both Democrats. The two have expressed concerns that Kenya’s political standoff could worsen if not addressed urgently and have called for dialogue between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga to end the impasse.
Raila will also meet with his supporters in DC, New Jersey/New York before he returns to Kenya at the weekend. He will be speaking to Nasa supporters at Cococabana Bar and Grill, 2031A University, Boulevard E, Hyattsville, Maryland, between 6 and 8 pm today.
On Saturday, he is scheduled to hold two meetings in New Jersey, courtesy of Nasa USA Team.
The first one is a town hall meeting with the diaspora at St Patrick’s High School Auditorium – 492 Bramhall Avenue Jersey City, NJ 07304 between 2 pm and 6 pm.
Later on in the evening, Raila will be a guest of honor at a $100 Dinner Dance that starts at 8 pm to 1 am at the Clinton Manor Banquet Hall 2735 US-22 Union, New Jersey.
“The cover charge of $100 includes food, drink, and dance. Because the space is limited, RSVP is required and payments through Cashapp is encouraged. No payments will be accepted at the door,” Nasa USA Team said in a statement.
Odinga’s U.S tour has, of course, caught the attention of Deputy President William Ruto who took to his Twitter account to react.
He tweeted: “So,Tinga went all the way to the USA to seek support to scuttle the possibility of a son of peasant from being elected prezo in 2022!Balaa!”

Here are some reactions from KOT.
Hello William, the only option for finishing Mr. Tinga politically is by not allowing the formation of Interim Government “Mkate Nusu”… We won this thing. Boflo tunachukua roho safi. Let Tinga go and rest in Political Oblivion and watch Arap Ruto ascend to the Statehouse 2022.

This is an embarrassment to the nation.Any leader going to lecture/speak/entertain should always ensure that Kenya is portrayed as a beacon of hope for Africa. Let us strive to resolve our issues internally and not give the muzungu any chance of believing we are good for nothing.

In 1997, I watched as the son of the peasant was being elected in Eldoret. Hope to be alive in 2022 as he is sworn in as President.

This is is the potent cancer that resides amongst self declared leaders. Of all the possible responses to the numerous issues @RailaOdinga raised, you were only inspired by your thirst for Presidency and nothing else tickled your senses. May the spirits of sobriety visit you.
