Babu Owino’s woes finally came to an end yesterday, albeit for the time being, after he was freed on Sh200,000 cash bail. Before that, the embattled Embakasi East MP had been released and then re-arrested.
He was first arrested on Monday for calling President Kenyatta ‘mtoto wa mbwa’. Moments after his release on a Sh500, 000 bail and two sureties of Sh1 million each, he was thrown back in jail for attacking and causing grievous harm to Mr Joshua Otiende, a former Embakasi East parliamentary aspirant on Amani National Congress.
The MP is facing charges of subversion and offensive conduct as well as an alternative charge of incitement to violence. The case will be mentioned on Wednesday, October 4, 2017.
Babu’s insult against the president has continued to draw criticism from all corners of the country.
Celebrated media personality Caroline Mutoko is among the recent public figures to air their sentiments about Babu’s remarks.
According to Mutoko, there is an unwritten political rule that keeps children, wives, mistress and above all mothers off limits during political propaganda.
In a 5-minute video on her Youtube channel, Mutoko advises Babu to learn a lesson from Sultan Joho who took on the president without insulting his family.
She also claims that NASA leaders have neglected him by allowing him to make such remarks.
