LeafyIsHere, real name Calvin Vail, is a 21 year old American YouTube star.
His channel mixes gaming, satire, commentary and storytelling. By end of 2016, his channel was approaching 5 million subscribers. His first videos were on Minecraft gameplay.
Calvin was born in Utah in 1995 to parents who struggled with drug abuse. According to his Fandom page, his father once tried to commit suicide.
He joined YouTube in 2011 as a way of getting away from his daily life.
LeafyIsHere – the YouTube channel, was launched on October 7, 2011. Calvin uploads a new video everyday.
Initially, he would do Top 10 lists, Minecraft and Fallout 3 gameplay, but in 2013 he branched out to commentary. He also streams on Twitch.
According to Socialblade, LeafyIsHere averages 650,000 views a day across all videos. His subscriber count has seen a gradual rise with brief periods of drops.
How Much Money Does ‘Leafy is Here’ Make on YouTube
YouTube income is directly determined by monetized video views. The video giant has been adjusting some of its rules on what is monetizable and what is not. Recently, they updated their advertising policies to exclude videos with inappropriate, mature content, profanity etc.
The guideline in-part reads:
Advertiser-friendly content is content that’s appropriate for all audiences. It has little to no inappropriate or mature content in the video stream, thumbnail, or metadata (such as in the video title). If the video does contain inappropriate content, the context is usually newsworthy or comedic and the creator’s intent is to inform or entertain (not offend or shock).
Content that is considered “not advertiser-friendly” includes, but is not limited to:
– Sexually suggestive content, including partial nudity and sexual humor
– Violence, including display of serious injury and events related to violent extremism
– Inappropriate language, including harassment, profanity and vulgar language
– Promotion of drugs and regulated substances, including selling, use and abuse of such items
– Controversial or sensitive subjects and events, including subjects related to war, political conflicts, natural disasters and tragedies, even if graphic imagery is not shown
Unfortunately for Calvin, a good number of his videos fall under this.
Also, he happens to be in the dreaded gaming category where members are well aware of ad blocking tools. The percentage of user who have installed such plugins is highest in the tech and gaming categories.
However, assuming LeafyIsHere has all his video views monetized, he makes between $600 and $1800 daily. This is using YouTube’s average pay per thousand views of between $1 and $3.
Socialblade pegs his daily earnings at a minimum of $560 and a maximum of $1,650.
His numbers fluctuate greatly, and it is not uncommon for him to hit 3 million views on certain days. At his peak in July 2016, he averaged 4 million video views daily.
He currently has a total 870 million views across all videos, which means YouTube has potentially paid him around $2 million in total.
LeafyIsHere further compliments his YouTube income with sale of merchandise. He has partnered with a Dutch company to sell T-shirts and hoodies to his loyal fans. It’s not easy to put a figure on the value of this partnership, but it’s probably worth many hundreds of thousands or even a few million dollars.
Therefore, based of current earnings from YouTube, estimated sales from merchandise and figures from other YouTube stars similar with subscriber numbers…
