Embattled women’s boxing champion Conjestina Achieng’ has been readmitted to a psychiatric ward at Kisumu county hospital.

The former boxing sensation was taken to the hospital by a well-wisher, Winny Ogolla on Tuesday.

“Conjestina is someone that can get back to her normal health if people come together to help her,” said Ms Ogolla.

Her elder brother William Ochieng’ says her condition has been deteriorating since she was discharged from Mathare hospital in 2013.

“Her condition is a heavy burden on us because we cannot cater for her health expenses. I am only with my mother who is getting older,” he said at the hospital.

He faulted the government and organisations who have turned a blind eye on a Kenyan hero.

“We are disappointed because this is the girl who once placed this country on the map with her outstanding performance in the boxing industry,” he said as quoted by The Star.

Ochieng’ further claimed that some unscrupulous people are using Conjestina’s name to earn a living.

“Some people have even turned her into a business. They collect money using her name but she is not helped in any way.”

Conjestina’s family continues to ask the government and well-wishers to come to their aid, especially since Conjestina has a son who will write KCSE examinations this year.
