A parent of Kiganjo Mixed Day Secondary School is given first aid after she fainted during a meeting on Monday / The Star

A parent passed out while others wept during a school meeting in Ol Kalou, where students rejected exams and instead demanded balls, skipping ropes and other sporting equipment.

The students of Kiganjo Mixed Day Secondary School demanded to be allowed to study less and play more.

The meeting was called by the school administration on Monday to respond to the students’ rebellion, which started last Thursday.

The students reportedly boycotted the end of term exams because they were very hard. They added that their minds were exhausted and they need more time to relax.

The administration met Nyandarua Central DEO James Wahome last week, when the students were let have their way for a day to avert trouble.

Principal Esther Chege sent them home the following day to report back on Monday with their parents.

The parents and teaching fraternity agreed that the students must sit for exams. Some parents suggested caning as the best antidote for the students’ ‘madness’.
