A marital squabble ended in tragedy in Gilgil after a man killed his daughter and injured another after a disagreement with his wife over a cup of milk meant for their two children.

Godfrey Muiruri, 32, allegedly hit his step daughter with a claw hammer, killing her instantly.

According to the man’s wife, her husband picked a quarrel after she declined to serve him milk which she intended to feed the children.

“He wanted to drink the milk but I explained to him why it was not possible. But despite my explanation, he grabbed the milk and drank it and when it was over, he picked a claw hammer and killed my firstborn,” said the woman.

The man then threw their one year old daughter into a fire. She sustained injuries on the face, back, hands and stomach is recuperating at Nairobi Women’s hospital, Nakuru branch.

Inspector David Velela, the officer in-charge of Kiambogo AP Post confirmed the incident saying the suspect was arrested as he attempted to flee and is currently being held at Elementaita Police Post.

Mr James Kamau, a village elder, who described the incident as unfortunate, urged couples to solve their differences using dialogue instead of resorting to violence.
