At exactly 11am on Thursday, business at Kenyatta University came to a standstill following a very loud explosion. After a few minutes of panicking, a second explosion, just as loud as the first went off. Smoke was seen coming from the ‘Post Modern Library’, and it was clear something was up.
For majority of students and visitors who had not seen the University memo announcing the mock emergency drill, memories of Westgate started running through their minds.
Continues gunshots soon followed, and then never ending sirens.
The police had chosen KU Library as the venue to test terror response, and it was as dramatic as it can get.
Ambulances and fire engines were in plenty, and many lectures were immediately suspended. At least 3 students inside the library, unaware of what was about to happen, became unwilling participants in the drill by fainting for real.
