Pencil artist Collins Okello has been a really busy man since his pencil sketch of President Uhuru went viral, landing him a double invite to State House. That moment proved to be his big break and the phone has not stopped ringing.
Speaking on Jeff Koinange Live on Thursday night, Collins revealed that several high profile individuals have contracted him to do a similar job for them. Highest on the pecking order is South Sudan President Salva Kiir.
He revealed that President Kiir’s team reached out to him after seeing what he did with Uhuru’s picture. The artist also revealed that some Swiss ambassadors are also waiting in the long line.
Each drawing takes 8-12 hours, and the results are there for everyone to see. Jeff Koinange was clearly impressed by his own portrait, which was on set for the entire show. Jeff is a known lover of art, once spending Sh1 million on a painting from a Ugandan artist.
The Kisumu based artist further revealed of plans to go to art school and then open a gallery to house some of his drawings. Among those he said he’ll be drawing soon are: Nelson Mandela, Raila Odinga, First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore and US President Barack Obama.
