On the 1st anniversary of Westgate terror attack, it is obvious that the memories are still fresh on our minds. You can therefore imagine the reaction of Galleria Mall shoppers and businessmen when smoke and bullets filled the air yesterday at about 2:30pm.
A man sped past the security gates towards the parking ramming into a few cars. Without knowing what to expect, security guards shot at the car several times. People were meanwhile scampering for safety outside and inside the mall.
It turned out that the suspected terrorist was just a driver having an epileptic seizure.
With our recent history, perhaps this was the worst possible place for such an occurence. Having survived the accident, police bullets would have easily taken the man’s life. It is not clear whether any bullet got to him, but he was rushed to Nairobi Hospital.
