In the heightened insecure times in the country, Uasin Gishu leaders have maintained that they will not allow the opposition to hold rallies in the area claiming that it could fuel ethnic hatred among the residents.
Uasin Gishu governor, Jackson Mandago said that CORD lacked proper agenda for their rallies. He asserts that they would only allow the opposition to hold rallies in the region on provision of substantial reasons for the same.
“Such plans would only serve to disrupt the peace being enjoyed by our people, who are now healing the wounds of the post-election clashes,” said Mr Mandago.
Elsewhere, addressing faithfuls at the AIC Sugoi Church in Uasin Gishu, Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, and his Turbo counterpart, Mr Elisha Busienei, said they would also not allow any Opposition rallies. However he was categorical that Mr Odinga should take his rallies to Nyanza region where he alleged that political bickering might not affect the people.
“The county had healed after the 2007 animosities. Let Mr Odinga take his crusades to his home,” said Mr Sudi. The MP also said that Mr Raila should be jailed if he defied a directive issued by the state against mass action.
