Planes are parked on the tarmac of the JKIA Kenya April

Operations at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) were temporarily disrupted Wednesday morning after a body was found near the runway. Police say they are yet to know how the male body got on the runway but added that they suspected it was of a stowaway or a street boy. It is not clear how a street boy could gain access to the heavily secured area.

Officials say they were called at about 6 a.m and informed the body was at the end of the main runway and on checking they realised it had bruises. Airport CID boss, Joseph Ngisa confirmed that the body had bruises at the time of discovery. “We do not know if it was of a stowaway or someone who came to the runway on his own. He could have been a street boy because of the bruises,” said Ngisa.

This led to closure of the airport  indefinitely. It however resumed to full operations after 40 minutes closure. It’s said that Turkish Airlines plane was held in the air for a few minutes around 7am and normal operations resumed at the airport after the body was removed from the scene.
